What are the key points you need to take care while installing a piston compressor?



As the core moving part of a refrigeration system is the compressor, its installation level directly affects its performance and durability.

The installation needs are not all the same between the different types of compressors due to the different ways of compressing the refrigerant.

Today I would like to discuss with you the main installation points of a  piston compressor.

Key point one: reduce vibration of compressor

As we all know, by using the piston to compress the refrigerant, the reciprocating compressor suffers more serious vibrations than other types of compressors. Reducing running vibrations is significant for both the compressor and the entire refrigeration system, which can reduce noise and make the compressor run more peacefully.

if we cannot effectively reduce vibrations, the welded connection points between the compressor and the suction or discharge pipes are easy to break during operation, causing refrigerant leakage and affecting the performance of the refrigeration unit.

Therefore, adopting effective solutions to reduce compressor vibrations is the key point for the improvement and success of the installation.

1. For all Dorin compressors models, the piston compressor uses rubber vibration dampers to reduce vibrations.

 

2. Install shock absorber pipes on the suction and discharge refrigeration system pipes, which can reduce compressor vibration on the system hoses. The diameter of the shock absorber pipes is the same as the suction and discharge pipes and the length must follow the proposal of its manufacture which must not be less than 5 times its diameter. The shock tube must be parallel to the crankshaft and close to the compressor. It is best to choose a solder rod containing silver for soldering. The side near the compressor should be relaxed while the other side, near the system tube, fixed to the support frame, in order to reduce the transmission of vibrations to the entire refrigeration system.

 

3. Set the shock curve for the accessories before connecting to the compressor

If the pressure inlets of the high and low pressure gauges, the high and low pressure switches directly adopt those of the compressor body, it is recommended to set a damper curve near the end of the compressor and fix the capillary to reduce the vibrations.

If you need to use a cooling fan to cool the compressor cylinders, it is best to install it on the support frame if conditions permit, which can effectively reduce mutual vibrations during operation.


Key point two: reduce leakage of connection ports

As written in the key point one, reducing compressor vibrations is the most effective way to reduce leakages.

Apart from this, are there any other ways to reduce leakages? Yes, securing the tightening of the screw connection ports, using an additional sealant to minimize the refrigerant spillage.

It is recommended to use a welding rod containing silver to weld the connection ports between the suction / delivery valves of the compressor and the pipes of the system, since they are close to the source of vibration. The capillary connection with the compressor needs to be fixed to the support frame to reduce the impact.

 

Key point three: installed in an easily accessible location

The compressor is the main moving of the refrigeration system and needs to be checked regularly.

Therefore, in the layout of the refrigeration unit, we should install the compressor in an easily accessible position, in particular the view of the oil facing in an easy-to-see direction.

If conditions permit, it is better to slightly raise the compressor installation position to facilitate oil change, compressor maintenance operation, etc.
